Before the testing visit
Provide the switchboard list, previous results and details of equipment that cannot lose power without preparation. Agree access, affected areas and shutdown windows with the site contact. Testing that trips an RCD interrupts its connected circuits, so staff notification and equipment shutdown need to be planned.
Results that identify the device
An actionable record links the result to the board, circuit and RCD. The agreed report should identify the device, test method and settings, measured results, test date and person performing the work. Device characteristics and applicable requirements determine the test sequence and acceptance criteria.
Failed or inaccessible devices
A failed result needs assessment and appropriate action. Keep devices requiring repair, further investigation or retesting separate from those that could not be accessed or tested. Record any make-safe action and the next approval needed; a test report alone does not close a defect.
Evidence from a school project
See the Robert Townson High School RCD case study for recorded results and reporting examples. For a combined program, include portable equipment testing as a separately defined scope.
RCD testing records you can follow up
The Robert Townson High School case study records 633 test results: 624 passed and nine failed. These are recorded results, not a claim that 633 distinct devices were tested. A failed result and a completed repair are separate stages.
Agree report fields before attendance so the results can be reconciled with your existing records.

Request a commercial RCD testing visit
Send your site list, estimated RCD count, previous reports and preferred interruption windows. Identify the site contact and any equipment that requires a coordinated shutdown.
Need an ongoing service agreement or support across multiple sites? See our commercial electrical maintenance programme for response arrangements and portfolio coordination.
