01 — What RCDs do

RCDs disconnect supply when harmful leakage to earth is detected.

SafeWork NSW describes RCDs, or safety switches, as devices designed to switch off electricity supply when leakage to earth is detected at harmful levels. Proper installation, maintenance and testing are central to their protective role.
