Auracast transmitters, receivers & compatibility guide
Choose the right equipment for the people who will use it. Compare professional broadcast systems, personal listening devices and the connections that make them work together.
Auracast equipment falls into three practical roles: sending audio, receiving it and helping a listener select a broadcast. A successful purchase starts by identifying which role each product actually supports.
This guide covers product selection for Australian venues and smaller listening setups. For the technology overview, benefits and venue applications, start with our Auracast broadcast audio overview.
List the hearing aids, earbuds or loan receivers you need to support. Confirm how people will find the broadcast, then design the audio feed, coverage and day-to-day operation around that experience.
Transmitter, receiver or assistant?
Auracast transmitter
Takes an audio source and broadcasts it. Examples include a professional venue transmitter, a TV adapter or a USB audio dongle with broadcast support.
Auracast receiver
Receives the broadcast and plays the audio. This may be a compatible hearing aid or earbud, or a handheld unit connected to earphones or a suitable neckloop.
Auracast assistant
Helps the listener discover and select a broadcast. The interface may be a supported phone/app combination or controls built into the receiving device.
See the Bluetooth SIG explanation of Auracast roles. A phone acting as an assistant does not necessarily receive and replay the broadcast itself.

How to choose between them
For a room with convenient network access near the listening area, assess a transmitter mounted in that area. For a venue with an equipment rack and a separate preferred radio location, assess the controller-and-remote-transmitter arrangement. These are design starting points; the floor plan, cable paths and operational requirements should decide the final system.
Request a demonstration using your intended receivers. Ask staff to find a channel, change volume, return a receiver and place it on charge. That short exercise can reveal more about practical suitability than a feature list.
TV adapters and USB broadcast transmitters
Compact transmitters make it easier to explore Auracast at a desk or television. Treat them as a separate product category when planning a managed public venue.
Audeara BT-03
The Audeara Audio Broadcaster transmits to multiple compatible devices. Check its inputs against the television or audio source and confirm the receiver’s joining process.
Sennheiser BTA1
The BTA1 TV transmitter offers an Auracast route for compatible listening devices. Confirm TV output format, connection type and headphone compatibility before purchase.
Creative BT-W6
The BT-W6 USB transmitter supports LE Audio broadcast operation. Check the host’s USB audio support and use the required broadcast mode; ordinary Bluetooth pairing is a different workflow.
These are examples, not a complete catalogue or a promise of stock. Australian availability, firmware and bundles change. Confirm the exact regional model, included accessories and current lead time before ordering.
Which hearing aids and earbuds are compatible?
Look for explicit Auracast receive support on the exact model. Bluetooth 5.2, 5.3 or 5.4 on a specification sheet is insufficient evidence. General LE Audio support also needs a closer check: sending, receiving and assisting are separate capabilities.
Hearing aids
ReSound lists Vivia, Savi and Nexia for its Auracast Assistant in the Smart 3D app, with version 1.39 or later specified on its Vivia page. Check the Australian compatibility information and the exact hearing-aid style, firmware, app and phone combination with the hearing-care provider.
Earbuds and headphones
Sennheiser identifies MOMENTUM True Wireless 4 and ACCENTUM True Wireless in its Auracast guidance. Use current manufacturer instructions to check firmware and the app workflow. Avoid assuming that every product in a similarly named range has the same features.
A five-point compatibility check
- Model: record the full device name and variant.
- Role: confirm public Auracast reception, not only ordinary Bluetooth streaming.
- Software: check hearing-device firmware, phone operating system and app version.
- Joining: test discovering the named broadcast and entering a code if required.
- Listening: check intelligibility, level control and stability in the actual room.
The Bluetooth SIG Auracast product directory is a useful discovery tool. Follow it with manufacturer verification and a practical test of the complete combination.
Keep a loan-receiver pathway
A visitor may have no compatible personal device, a flat phone battery or unfamiliar settings. Plan a staffed loan option. The Infinium BA-R1, for example, provides a headphone output and supports a suitable neckloop for telecoil-equipped hearing aids. Neckloops require a compatible, enabled telecoil; they do not make every hearing aid compatible.
Include receivers, earphones, appropriate neckloops, charging capacity, cleaning procedures, secure storage and clear collection signage in the equipment schedule. For a wider assessment of listening access, see our hearing augmentation installation service.
Connecting the equipment to analogue, Dante and Q-SYS
Using an analogue feed
A transmitter with suitable analogue inputs can take a dedicated output from an audio processor or mixer. Agree what listeners need to hear: presenter microphones, programme sound and any remote participants. A dedicated listening feed can be adjusted and tested independently of the room loudspeaker level.
Using Dante network audio
Choose a transmitter/controller with the required Dante capability and document the routing, switch ports and network configuration. An Ethernet socket may provide control or power without supporting Dante. Our Dante audio networking page explains the wider platform.
Working with Q-SYS
In a suitable design, Q-SYS can provide audio processing and routing upstream of the Auracast system. Control integration depends on the product, API or available plugin and its supported functions. Review our Q-SYS integration service when the listening feed needs to sit within room presets or a broader AV control system.
Auracast does not replace the conferencing microphone return path. In a meeting room AV system, microphone pickup, echo control and remote-participant audio still need their own design.

Compare measured coverage, not headline range
Walls, people, transmitter placement and receiver design affect performance. A manufacturer's maximum range is a planning reference, not a guaranteed usable radius for every listener. Test the edges of the intended area and the places where people will actually sit.
Ask what the latency number includes
Transmitter processing delay and complete listening delay are different measurements. Listen Technologies publishes Auri TX2N-to-RX1 end-to-end figures of 29–45 ms depending on settings and notes that other receivers vary. Include the upstream audio processing and the intended listening device when checking alignment with room sound or video.
For procurement, separate hardware costs from installation, network work, programming, commissioning and training. A complete scope makes professional systems easier to compare and leaves fewer operational gaps after handover.
Auracast equipment FAQs
Does Bluetooth 5.3 or 5.4 guarantee Auracast compatibility?
No. Check that the exact product supports the Auracast role you need. A Bluetooth version or a general LE Audio claim does not establish support for receiving public broadcasts.
Can existing hearing aids use an Auracast venue system?
Some hearing aids receive Auracast directly. Others may work through a loan receiver and a compatible neckloop if they have an enabled telecoil. Confirm the model and listening arrangement with the hearing-care provider.
Does a visitor need a smartphone?
Not always. A dedicated receiver can provide its own channel selection. Personal hearing aids or earbuds may use a compatible phone or manufacturer app as the Auracast assistant. Test the actual joining workflow before recommending it.
Is Dante required for an Auracast transmitter?
No. A suitable analogue audio output can feed a transmitter with analogue inputs. Dante is useful when the venue already routes audio over a compatible network; specify the correct transmitter model and network configuration.
Can a TV transmitter replace a professional venue system?
A compact TV transmitter may suit a small demonstration or personal listening setup. A venue also needs suitable coverage, mounting, management, loan equipment, signage and support. Assess those requirements before selecting hardware.
Will every Auracast receiver have the same range and delay?
No. Receiver design, broadcast settings, RF conditions and the rest of the audio path affect results. Test representative devices in the occupied listening area rather than treating one manufacturer's range or latency figure as universal.
Can Auracast carry a two-way meeting conversation?
The broadcast carries audio from the source to listeners. It does not provide the microphone return path for a video call. A meeting room still needs a separately designed conferencing microphone and loudspeaker system.
What should an Australian equipment quote include?
Ask for exact model numbers, regional supply, firmware requirements, audio interfaces, mounting, power, receivers, neckloops, chargers, commissioning, training and warranty support. Confirm current stock and lead times with the supplier.
