St Francis of Assisi Church in Paddington is a heritage-listed Gothic building and active parish known for its masses, community gatherings and musical events. The building's high ceilings and reflective stone surfaces created a significant acoustic challenge: poor speech clarity, uneven sound distribution, and pronounced echo in the rear seating areas.
The existing analogue PA system suffered from uneven coverage, frequent manual adjustments by untrained volunteers, a noisy 3.5mm music input prone to hum and interference, and outdated mixer and DSP components well past their serviceable life. The parish needed a modern, reliable system that volunteers could operate confidently — without any technical background.

Project Goals
Speech clarity across every pew is now consistently intelligible, including the rear seating areas that previously suffered from echo and coverage drop-off. Volunteers manage the entire system from a single touchscreen without technical support. Wireless microphone performance has eliminated feedback issues that disrupted services previously.
The Q-SYS platform is scalable — the system is ready to support future expansion including video integration should the parish require it. The parish representative noted the upgrade has completely transformed the experience for the congregation.
